Tips for Divine Sleep

Did you know....

  • More than 30% of the population suffers from insomnia.

  • More than half of adults lose sleep due to stress and anxiety.

  • If you’re sleep deprived, you’re 27% more likely to be overweight.

  • The top reason couples gave for avoiding sex was "too tired”.

  • An estimated 1500 people die each year from “drowsy driving”.

  • Women are twice as likely to suffer from sleep issues than men.

Adults in America sleep 20% less than 100 years ago. The effects of drowsiness include irritability, memory loss, difficulty concentrating, depression, weight gain, impaired judgement, irregular heartbeat, increased risk of diabetes and high blood pressure, and decreased immunity. According to

the CDC, more than 9 million Americans use sleeping pills, which have additional side effects. If you want to resolve your sleep issues, here are some simple, safe and natural solutions:

Change Your Diet Many sleep issues are the result of imbalances within your digestion or adrenal system. Keep a food journal for a few weeks to track and see if certain foods cause trouble sleeping. Sometimes eating too close to bedtime causes sleeplessness. Try and have your last meal of the day at least three hours before going to sleep. Avoid caffeine after 1pm and include plenty of healthy fats and proteins in your meals throughout the day. Avoid sugars, vegetable oil, gluten, grains and processed foods. Instead of sugary snacks, enjoy antioxidant-rich fruits, vegetables and herbs such as clove, cinnamon, turmeric and cocoa.

Adjust Your Lighting Adults and children today are starving for sunshine. It’s recommended that you enjoy 30 minutes of sunshine each day for optimum melatonin levels at night. Avoid artificial light, especially after the sun goes down. This includes the TV, computer, night lights, alarm clock lights, phones and other electronics. If needed, use blackout curtains or drapes to keep your room dark.

Reduce Stress Take a soothing bath, read a book, pray, meditate or journal to relieve stress at the end of the day. Disengage from negative news and social media to help you relax in the evenings. Using flower essences, or soaking in a warm foot bath with epsom salt or essential oils can also help you to relax and prepare for sleep.

Process Your Emotions Worry, grief, anxiety, thinking about the past, anger, loneliness and other strong emotions are all enemies of sleep. Every person has emotions that they hang onto for one reason or another. At Divine Health Naturally we offer two therapies to help you process and release emotions that are keeping you from enjoying a healthy life and restful sleep. EVOX , a quick and painless conscious/subconscious reframing tool, can be very effective. Another therapy is Emotional Restoration . During a private consultation, the naturopathic doctor will test your body to determine the best solution for you.

Have Your Body Chemistry Tested If your circadian rhythms are out of balance, or if you wake up at a particular time each night, this may indicate an organ or gland imbalance. These imbalances are easily tested through the pH levels in your saliva and urine. Once your deficiencies are identified, the naturopath will test your body to determine the best herbs, essential oils, flower essences or nutritional supplements for your situation. Commonly used are dandelion, beet flow, digestive enzymes, cod liver oil, black cohosh, yellow dock root, ginger, fennel, cardamom, lavender oil, and custom created flower essences. Resist the temptation to purchase numerous supplements. Instead, get your body’s chemistry tested to see what your deficiencies are and what are the best options for healing. The Healing Essentials Package is an ideal solution.

Naturopathy helps each individual to restore balance between body, mind and spirit, allowing natural healing to occur. This is not a magic cure, though many do report very rapid results.
