What is Infrared Imaging?
Digital infrared thermal imaging is a totally noninvasive clinical imaging procedure for detecting and monitoring a number of diseases and physical injuries, by showing the thermal abnormalities present in the body.
It is used as an aid for diagnosis and prognosis, as well as monitoring therapy progress, for conditions and injuries, including:
- Back Injuries
- Thyroid Dysfunction
- Breast Disease
- Stroke Screening
- Sinus Infection
- Disc Disease
- Dental and TMJ
- Nerve Damage
Images or Thermograms can be taken of the whole body or just areas being investigated. The digitized images are stored on a computer and are sent electronically to a Thermologist for interpretation and reporting.
What is Breast Thermography?
Breast Thermography is a safe, non-ionizing, non-contact study of breast skin temperature that is useful in breast health risk assessment. It has particular utility in monitoring the effect of breast hormone therapy. It is also useful as an adjunct in the detection of physiologic changes associated with breast cancer. Internationally peer reviewed Guidelines for Breast Thermography have been developed by the American Academy of Thermology in 2012.
How Does Breast Thermography Work?
Thermography measure, images and maps microcirculatory shunting associated with breast circulatory changes in the skin. Hormones, in particular estrogen and progesterone, can affect breast physiology and circulation. Serial studies are helpful in monitoring the effects of hormone replacement therapy and the treatment of fibrocystic disease. There are several musculoskeletal applications that impact breast lymphatics, health and associated pain as well.
