Dry Skin Brushing

Dry skin brushing is a simple technique for the body, and yet many have never heard of it.  The largest organ of the body is our skin.  Did you know that our skin is responsible for one-fourth of the body’s detoxification each day?  By stimulating our skin through dry skin brushing we can actually help our lymphatic system to clean itself of toxins that collect in the lymph glands.

The benefits of dry skin brushing include:  firmer skin, helps remove cellulite, circulation will be stimulated, cleans the lymphatic system, improves digestion, removes dead skin therefore, produces smoother skin.  Best of all it is inexpensive and invigorating!

Dry skin brushing is very easy to perform.

  1. Use a natural bristle brush designed for skin brushing.  Those with long handles are the easiest to use.
  2. Begin brushing skin before your bath or shower.  Skin needs to be dry.
  3. Brush skin with small circular strokes.  Do not brush too hard.
  4. Start on the one side of the body.  Begin brushing the bottom of the feet, continuing brushing up your legs.  Proceed to your hands and arm.  Brush your entire back and abdomen area, shoulder and neck.  Use circular counter-clockwise strokes on the abdomen.  Lightly brush the breasts, avoiding the nipples.
  5. After you are finished brushing your body, take a warm shower or bath.  Rinse in cool water to stimulate more blood circulation.
  6. Keep your brush clean by washing with mild soap and rinsing completely with water every couple of weeks.  Let brush dry completely.
  7. Dry skin brushing can be done at least once a day, but can be done twice a day when feeling ill.
